Texas Transportation Commission approves road improvements to South Padre Island
932 Views :: 0 Comments :: :: South Padre Island, Port Isabel, Laguna Vista
Motorists traveling on Highway 100 in the Los Fresnos area to South Padre Island will see a $4.1 million concrete barrier that will separate lanes of traffic.

The barrier will be from 3 ½ miles east of FM 1847 in Los Fresnos to 5 ½ miles east of Old Port Isabel Road, just west of Laguna Vista. The Texas Department of Transportation extended the project an additional two miles from its original distance.

The funds are allocated through the Hazard Elimination Program, which is a competitive federal safety program. Transportation departments identify locations with specific or peculiar accident patterns and occurrences and use the funds to reduce those types of accidents.
