 South Padre Island's Convention and Visitor's Bureau have made an effort to keep promoting the city as one of the premier destinations on the Gulf Coast. In the last couple years, the town has launched a series of special events and public relations efforts.

New Town Hall Opens
South Padre island opened a new $7.5 million dollar town hall and police station.
The new center offers state of the art technology that will benefit residents in the community.

The new facility is home to several different departments such as the city manager, police, public works and municipal government offices. It will also add a new 911 dispatch console to help respond to calls more effectively and that information is inputted properly.
The building is expected to be fully operational within the next week.

At the southern tip of the world’s longest barrier island,
South Padre Island Birding and Nature Center is a spectacular introduction to a world-class destination, and a doorway to all this vibrant sand, sun, and surf hotspot has to offer.
With a new World Birding Center visitor’s center already in design, visitors can enjoy a stroll on boardwalk nature trails that link all areas of the marsh and Laguna Madre shore.

Interpretive panels provide interesting educational insights, while strategically placed blinds allow visitors to get a close-up view of the wildlife here.
Native planting areas near the convention center are always open to the public, and offer a convenient spot to view migrating songbirds, as well as the island’s dazzling butterfly population.
